New Delhi, after a ruckus at the Congress Working Committee meeting of the party's highest policy-making body last month for a change in Congress leadership, the party president Sonia Gandhi formed a 22-member new Working Committee on Friday, making a big change in the organization. Five general secretaries including Nabi Azad and four state in-charge general secretaries have been removed. ! In a release issued by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal here, he informed that the Working Committee consists of 22 members including Mrs. Gandhi while 26 permanent invitees and nine special invitees are included.

Mr. Azad, along with 22 other senior leaders, recently called for a change in the organization. The party has discharged five general secretaries Ghulam Nabi Azad, Motilal Vora, Smt. Ambika Soni, Malikarjun Kharge, and El Florio. Similarly, state in-charge Narayan Singh, Asha Kumari, and Gaurav Gogoi and Ramchandra Khuntia have also been removed. , It will also be investigated, along with Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, 23 leaders including senior party leaders Kapil Sibal, Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tiwari wrote to Mrs. Gandhi, and demanded a change in party leadership. 

Many senior leaders who have adopted a rebel attitude have been overlooked and only Mr. Azad has been given a place in the Working Committee as before. Mr. Venugopal informed that apart from Mrs. Gandhi, other members included in the new Working Committee are former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, former party president Rahul Gandhi, AK Antony, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, Anand Sharma, K.C. Venugopal, Harish Rawat, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mukul Wasnik, Ajay Maken, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, P Chidambaram, Jitendra Singh, Tariq Anwar, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Oman Chandy, Gaikhangam, Raghuveer Singh Meena, and Tarun Gogoi. 

He said that among the permanent invitees to the party were Digvijay Singh, Meera Kumar, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Jairam Ramesh, Avinash Pandey, KH Muniyappa, Pramod Tiwari, Tariq Hamid Kara, Pawan Kumar Bansal, Mrs. Rajni Patil, PL Punia, RPN Singh 26 leaders including Shakti Singh Gohil, Rajiv Satav, Rajiv Shukla, Jitin Prasad, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Manikan Tagore, Dr. C. Kumar HK Patil, Bhaktacharan Das, Kuljit Singh Nagra have been given place.

Nine special invitees have been made to the Working Committee which includes Deepender Hooda, Kuldeep Bishnoi, Chinta Mohan, Sachin Rao, Sushmita Dev, Lalit Desai, G Sanjeeva Reddy, Sachin Rao, Neeraj Kumar, and BV Srinivas. Shri Venugopal said that the party has changed the in-charges of many states and the responsibility of many has been changed. Mrs. Vadra has again been given the responsibility of the General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh. 

He informed that Shri Mukul Wasnik has been made in charge of Madhya Pradesh while Harish Rawat has been removed from Assam and made in-charge of Punjab. Oommen Chandy has been given the responsibility of Andhra Pradesh, Tariq Anwar to Kerala and Laxdeep, Surjewala to Karnataka, Jitendra Singh to Assam, Ajay Maken to Rajasthan, and Venugopal to the General Secretary. 

Among the changes that the party has made to the state in-charge, PK Bansal has been made in charge of administration, while Rajni Patil has been appointed as Jammu and Kashmir, Poonia in Chhattisgarh, RPN Singh in Jharkhand, Gohil in Bihar as well as Delhi, Rajiv Satav in Gujarat. 

Along with Dadar and Nagar Haveli Jitin Prasad, West Bengal and Andaman and the Nicobar Islands, Dinesh Gundu Rao to Tamil Nadu, Rajeev Shukla to Himachal Pradesh, Chela Kumar to Odisha, SK Patil to Maharashtra, Devendra Yadav to Uttarakhand, Vivek Bansal to Haryana, Manish. Chatrath has been made the new charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Bhakta Charan Das as Mizoram and Kuljit Singh Nagra as Sikkim, Nagaland, and Tripura.
